Trauma Treatment
Incest and Child Sexual Abuse. Since the publication of her
first book on the effects of incest and child sexual abuse in 1978,
Dr. Meiselman has specialized in the treatment of adults, both men
and women, with backgrounds of childhood abuse. She believes in the
importance of establishing mutual trust and respect in the
therapeutic relationship as a precondition to working on the effects
of unresolved trauma on day-to-day functioning. Problems with
current relationships are the usual focus of psychotherapy sessions
with the processing of early trauma done only as it directly relates
to improving relationships in the here-and-now. The approach is
practical and reality oriented, as opposed to highly theoretical.
Clients are generally seen for one individual session per week
unless they are in crisis.
Victims of Violent Crime. Dr. Meiselman treats adults who are
suffering from the psychological effects of recent trauma, often
manifested as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She has
experience with the treatment of victims of violent crimes, such as
rape, physical assault, and attempted murder.
Sexual Harassment. She has also worked with victims of sexual
harassment in the workplace, including violent actions and
situations involving the misuse of power to coerce employees.
Traumatic Bereavement. Family members of homicide victims and
victims of sudden, accidental death often suffer from trauma as well
as from grief reactions. Dr. Meiselman has experience in treating
individuals involved in these tragic circumstances.
Clergy Abuse. Both male and female victims of molestation by
clergy members have been treated in Dr. Meiselman's practice.
