Background and Training

Originally from Jamestown, New York, Dr. Meiselman received her B.A. in psychology and sociology from Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland and her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), having completed doctoral research on cognitive deficits in schizophrenia. She received supervised clinical training at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles and the Psychology Clinic at the UCLA Department of Psychology. She completed a post-doctoral internship approved by the American Psychological Association at the Department of Psychiatry, Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles in 1972 and was licensed as a psychologist by the State of California in 1974. She taught courses in Introductory Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Psychological Statistics, Clinical Psychology, Human Sexuality, and the Psychology of Women at UCLA Extension, the Claremont Colleges, and the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles.

Dr. Meiselman is a member of the American Psychological Association (Divisions of Clinical Psychology, Psychological Hypnosis, and Independent Practice), the California Psychological Association, Los Angeles County Psychological Association, San Gabriel Valley Psychological Association, American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (www.asch.net), Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (www.sceh.us), and the Southern California Society of Clinical Hypnosis (www.scsch.org). She has achieved the status of Approved Consultant with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and served as President of the Southern California Society of Clinical Hypnosis from 1997 to 2000. She has been listed by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology since 1979.

Dr. Meiselman is the author of two books about the psychological effects of incest and the treatment of adults who have experienced incest as children: Incest: A Psychological Study of Causes and Effects with Treatment Recommendations was published in 1978 by Jossey-Bass in San Francisco. Resolving the Trauma of Incest: Reintegration Therapy with Survivors appeared in 1990. She has also written 15 journal articles and book chapters on incest and child sexual abuse and given numerous presentations to professional groups on the long-term effects of incest, rape and child molestation. Dr. Meiselman has often consulted with the media on stories involving child sexual abuse.
